UCC + TUD Students Move Advance to University Esports Masters (UEM) Finals after Legion Collegiate Win
After successfully competing in Legion Collegiate tournaments in its inaugural semester, UCC Ultras and TUD Apes are Europe bound. Competing in the UEM finals of League of Legends and Rocket League respectively, the Irish college teams will play off against stiff competition in Germany this month.
The team for UCC Ultras has had a phenomenal year on the Irish circuit. Despite being Cork’s first-ever League of Legends collegiate winners, they nevertheless entered the Legion Collegiate final as underdogs. They prevailed, however, beating three Master tier players in the process.
Indeed, the team will aim to maintain momentum as they compete for their chunk of a whopping €14,500 prize pool. Starting in Group C, UCC Ultras will come face-to-face with teams from Italy, the UK, Poland, France, and Lithuania.
The UCC Ultras UEM team will be fielded by 5 of their top players:
Seán “manicdave” Hayes
Bernard “Berndog” Grabarczyk
Jack “Crustypants” Coleman
Aaron “Mani” Manning
Adam “VanishingPotato” Teldjoune

The TUD Apes team are sending their winning team of four to UEM’s Rocket League Tournament:
Shane “Shane” Marron
Noel “NCannon” Cannon
Darragh “My_Parable” Geoghegan
Dara “Moody” Moody
The teams going forward to UEM Championship is a testament to Legion Collegiate providing Irish students with a pathway to European level esports competition after its €100,000 investment into the circuit last year. With semester one having had 650 competing students from over 35 third-level colleges, it was no easy feat to qualify.
UCC Ultras and TUD Apes’ advancement to the UEM Championship is a markedly tremendous achievement for each of the teams, representative colleges, and esports as a whole in Ireland.
Lastly, all in Legion Arena wish the very best of luck to both teams in the championship!
